Keep Wales Tidy’s Vision is of "a beautiful Wales cared for and enjoyed by all".

A clean and tidy Wales is likely to be a safer Wales. Areas that are traditionally no-go areas after dark are more likely to be poorly maintained, plagued by graffiti and abandoned vehicles, and the domain of fly-tippers. Reducing the fear of crime has a real impact on the occurrence of crime. Greater public confidence in using their local environments reduces the opportunities for others to damage those environments.

Keep Wales Tidy considers that a "clean and tidy Wales" can be primarily achieved by changing people’s attitudes so that they are less likely to engage in activities that have a negative impact on their local environments. Keep Wales Tidy will take an holistic view towards the local environment and will seek to tackle issues such as littering, flytipping, dog fouling, graffiti, flyposting and vandalism. We will target our activities by seeking to tackle anti-social behaviour and seeking to change people’s behaviour so that they do not have a negative impact on the quality of their local environment.

Keep Wales Tidy considers that a Clean, Safe and Tidy Wales can be achieved by the following:
Education;
Empowering of local communities to look after their area;
Enforcement; and
Effective operations by Local Authorities.

Mission

To achieve the agreed vision, Keep Wales Tidy has agreed the following mission.

"Keep Wales Tidy will work to encourage local action to protect and enhance the environment of Wales."

Keep Wales Tidy does not take responsibility for the cleanliness and tidiness of Wales. However, it will engage in activities that encourage individuals, groups and organizations to act in a way that achieves a Clean, Safe and Tidy Wales.

Key activities will include:

Education: encouraging individuals and organisations to dispose of waste so that it does not become litter; encouraging people to reduce, re-use and recycle; a reduction in anti-social behaviour such as flytipping, flyposting, graffiti, dog fouling and vandalism
Empowering of local communities to look after their area by providing support to empower local communities to take responsibility for their own environment
Enforcement and effective operations – while Keep Wales Tidy does not have a direct role in these activities, we will seek to disseminate good practice and provide an advisory service. This will be achieved through distributing advice and good practice.
