The shop sells clothes and bric-a-brac. Instead of taking your unwanted household items and clothing to the tip, save on landfill space and take those in good condition to CISS or other charity shops. This charity acts as an umbrella organisation to provide an information and support service to cancer patients, carers, family, friends and health professionals.
CISS provides the following services:
A helpline,
Provides information on cancer and treatment of cancers (not medical advice),
Sponsors self help groups and offers meeting rooms at its offices,
Provides a qualified counseling service and can provide this at home or hospital,
Offers a treatment room for free complimentary therapy i.e. Reiki, Aromatherapy etc,
Takes part in health educational visits to schools and colleges,
Can provide training in counseling,

Further Information
Charity shops promote reuse, diverting useful items from being landfilled or incinerated. 100,000 tonnes of textiles pass through charity shops every year, saving the UK nearly £2 million in landfill tax alone! (London Recycling Fund Project)
Charity Shops reduces pressure on raw materials, energy, and labour, and promote sustainable development.

Training and Volunteering Opportunities
Volunteers are a vital part of CISS, and training is available for many roles, from retail assistant in one of their shops, to manning the Drop-In Centre.
Monthly meeting/training sessions by professional staff take place at CISS on a monthly basis and all volunteers are encouraged to attend. Volunteers are also offered external training depending on the suitability of courses available at local colleges or through the Council for Voluntary Services (CVS). All volunteers are encouraged to train to at least basic communication skills level, many volunteers go on to do further counselling skills courses.
