History of this location:

This location on Rua do Matriz is the site of the old city hall of Paraty. Today it is an artist gallery and workshop for two artists from Sao Paulo, Feranado Fernandes and Sergio Atilano, who arrived here17 years ago. Although they have different styles of work, they still find it possible to collaborate on many projects. Their work has been shown at Casa da Cultura in the past. They named their studio ‘bananal” because when they were arriving in Paraty, one of their first memories was a banana plantation on the road as they traveled from Cunha.

Sustainable features:

One unique feature of this art is an environmentally sustainable process where the artists make a pulp of paper and pigment and then attached it to a canvas. Then, they creatively apply re-cycled items such as nails, pieces of metal and other items from roads, rivers, and trails around Paraty to create one of a kind pieces of art. Their work is considered contemporary art incorporating recycled products.
