The Athens Zoo

The Athens Zoo is just a short taxi/bus ride from the Athens Airport and is therefore an excellent place to spend time during a layover, or to explore during the day. The Zoological Park is home to 1500 birds of 300 species from Africa, Asia, and America. Visitors can also view the "world of Reptiles", "African Savannah", and Greek Fauna" sections. The zoo offers recreational as well as educational programs to promote wildlife protection awareness. The rise of human population has caused devastation to many habitats in the world leaving few places for animals to live safely. For some creatures, the zoo is their only hope of survival. The Athens Zoo and zoos worldwide want to increase awareness in their visitors by providing meaningful experiences.
