Fri, April 20 - Floating Wetlands Launch
Vue d'ensemble
In a significant step towards a healthier, swimmable and fishable harbor, the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore, students from the Living Classrooms Foundation, volunteers from T. Rowe Price and a team from Biohabitats will come together to plant and install 2,000 sq. ft. of manmade floating wetlands that will live in the Inner Harbor – the largest permitted installation of floating wetlands in the state. Planting will begin at 9:30am at the Inner Harbor Amphitheater and last until 2:00pm. The public is invited to come observe the deployment and engage in a number of Healthy Harbor interactive displays hosted by Living Classrooms students and volunteers from Biohabitats, the National Aquarium, and Blue Water Baltimore.
These 50 floating wetland islands will be placed in front of the World Trade Center alongside with the original 8 wetlands islands and will act as tidal marshes that naturally improve water quality and provide habitat for the many native species that live in the Inner Harbor.
