Lein Chen and Ning Yung Associations
Vue d'ensemble
Two powerful district associations dominated Chinatown. The Lein Chen and Ning Yung Associations were modeled from such associations as far back as 25 generations ago in China. These district associations regulated businesses and mediated disputes within groups. Those from the Toishen district of Guangdong Province were automatically members of the Ning Yung Association and all others belonged to Lein Chen.
