Monteseel is the oldest and most popular climbing destination in KwaZulu-Natal. With over 300 documented climbing routes (grades vary between 8 and 28), the area offers climbers of varying levels of skill, a range of climbing options. Most of the routes are only one-pitch and vary in height from 10m to 30m. The rock is sandstone of the Natal Group and is characterised by good edges and horizontal rails. The area is also a popular abseiling destination. There are a number of self-guided hiking trails in the area, with good birding opportunities.
