Aucu vote pour l'instant.

The Cafe Royal was housed in a typical East Village building built in 1903.However, the presence of the world -famous Cafe Royal on the ground floor, transformed the typical building into something legendary.

Opened in 1908, the Cafe Royal was the stomping ground that made the Yiddish Broadway of the East Village thrive. Everyone from socialists to writers to Broadway stars to renowned Yiddish performers went to the Cafe Royal at least once a week. As the New Yorker stated "everybody who is anybody in the Jewish creative world" was there. "to be seen there is a social duty, a mark of distiction, and an investment in prestige"

The Cafe Royal shuttered for good in 1952. Today it is a Japanese restaurant.
