Tailors' Union
Vue d'ensemble
On the eve of Yom Kippur in 1884, a group of Russian and Polish Jews came together on the top floor of this building in an early effort at unionization. They formed the Tailors' Union.
The following day, a group of pressers held their own meeting to discuss the first general strike in the men's clothing industry, during which the tailors succeeded in organizing the majority of piecework shops.
