Maramec Spring is the fifth largest spring in Missouri and the first of four major contributors to the Meramec River. Dry Fork loses most of its volume underground and is a major contributor to the spring, which has an average water flow of 100 million gallons per day. Maramec Spring Park offers camping February 28th through October 30th and fishing with a permit and daily trout tag. The stream is stocked daily by The Missouri Department of Conservation. The property was originally owned by Thomas James and was the site of the Maramec Iron Works company from 1826 to 1876. Maramec Spring Park is now owned and operated by the James Foundation, which was created by the great-granddaughter of Thomas James, upon her death.
