Khor Khuwair خور خوير

Vue d'ensemble
Khor Khuwair is an under-watched site consisting of an inlet with mudflats and mangroves 15 km north of the emirate of Ras al-Khaimah. As with so many birding sites in the UAE, it is under threat of development.
A good viewpoint is located at 25:53:13.8N+056:02:11.6E, it was accessible during spring 2006
The southernmost viewpoint was accessible by saloon car in the spring of 2006, but beware of new housing developments in the area.
The area is good for waders and holds the occasional Crab Plover. Wintering eagles used to be found here due to the closeness of the old Rams rubbish dump, but since this is now a housing area, the only eagle one can find with any regularity is Greater Spotted Eagle. White-throated Kingfisher (a rarity in the UAE) was recorded here in 1995 and 1998. Indian Pond Heron was found with some regularity here during the winter months, but not recorded recently due to the few birders visiting the area.
