Built for English Lutherans in 1801 the church turned Roman Catholic in 1853. It is still visited by a Italian worshipers but the majority are Chinese. Here, as in the Old St. Patrick's Church, when the Irish and Italians were in majority in the region, the Irish worshiped in the main hall of the church while the Italians worshiped in the basement. Father McLoughlin, the pastor at the time tried to convince the Italian parishioners to join with the Irish in the main hall, but the Italians were not interested.
