Restaurant Muramoto
Vue d'ensemble
Shinji Muramoto’s flagship restaurant first opened its doors in 2004. It was, and continues to be, the realization of his creativity and his passion to bring new flavors to Madison. Here, Shinji offers his interpretation of the comparatively young style of cooking that is Asian fusion. It is his belief that this style of cuisine is best experienced in a small-plate format, as it promotes sharing and therefore creates the likelihood that his customers will attempt new things.
Asian fusion cuisine was a relatively new concept to Madison and the U.S. at the time when Restaurant Muramoto first opened. Shinji brings his methods, ratios, popular ingredients, and even his family recipes from Japan and applies them in such a way that the resulting dishes retain the tradition and elegance that is present in that country’s food. He likes to distinguish himself by pointing out that he is moving ideologically East to West in this endeavor, while his American counter parts are moving in the opposite direction, albeit toward the same goal. He truly believes that the difference that this makes will be apparent in his food and presentation, and invites you to come see for yourself.
Now, in 2008, Restaurant Muramoto has found a home down the street from its familiar locale. In this new and larger space at 225 King St, Shinji feels he can further express his Asian Fusion philosophy in a more upscale environment that matches the style of his cuisine.
