DESCRIPTION: Berkshire Berries of Becket, Massachusetts is owned and operated by the Graves family. Their family has been in business starting with David’s grandfather in 1870 in Williamsburg as a wagon maker. Decades later, in 1978, David and Mary Graves decided to make berry products from their own backyard. After the success of their berry products, David came up with the concept of “urban-hive” in which bees are put on Manhattan rooftops. Although, it is not exactly legal, their honey has become a successful part of their business and David gained the nickname of “The Bee-man.”.
At first, they sold their products in a wagon made by David’s grandfather in front of their house, then to a children’s camp, then in 1993 the Union Square Green Market, and eventually, their business has slowly gained nationwide recognition.
