Whatever your political stand on nuclear energy may be, it is worthwhile to note that Parati is not far from a nuclear power station. Angra dos Reis, just north of Parati, is where Almirante Álvaro Alberto Nuclear Power Station is located. The engineers offer a reasonable amount of security in that an operational mishap should occur only once every “1,000,000 years. ” These risks are worthwhile for some, while others argue that smaller scale, less-centralized energy production can lead to more sustainable development and better consumption patterns.

This is a growing region with heavy power demands. Who knows what the future may bring…
