Mt. Clare Street Community Garden
Overview
The Mt. Clare Street Community Garden was started by Betsy Waters working with Eddie Smith, the neighborhood association, and Civic Works in 1999. The former makeshift basketball court was transformed into a place to grow food and flowers, and is managed by the local community. People from all over the city come to help, however, including artists, college and elementary school students, and locals in the neighborhood. The garden consists of a chicken run/roosting tower, pond, horse manure composting area, Vietnamese Buddhist pagoda tool shed, and raised beds. You can sign up to help grow desired plants in a garden plot of your choosing.
