Starting in July 2010, the traditionally African-American church pursued efforts to increase environmental consciousness. Concerned for the health of the congregation, Pastor Brown sought to implement different methods to improve both the spiritual and physical health of the congregation. Since then, Pleasant Hope bosts a recycling program but a beautiful garden, a compost bin, and most of all a new appreciation for going green. With the help of partnerships with St. Joseph’s Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH), he has pursued an initiative that hopes to align the power and wisdom of the church with promoting a healthy lifestyle in addition to spiritual well-being.
