Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation

Overview
Founded in 1979 to stimulate economic growth and neighborhood stability in Kings County, the Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) has evolved into a multi-service business and community development organization, serving over 1000 clients per year. In October 2003, BEDC launched a program called The Initiative for a Competitive Brooklyn (ICB), in which over 200 private, public and civic leaders participated. ICB is working with a number of partners to ensure that Brooklyn’s small and mid-sized contractors remain healthy and competitive. Consequently, their curriculum for BEDC's construction program includes Green Advantage certification, tax workshops, L.E.E.D familiarity, as well as safety, legal and technical assistance. The Green Advantage certification and L.E.E.D workshops are being done in conjunction with the U.S Green Building Council and CUNY.
