Kennedy Woods Prairie/Savanna in Forest Park

Native Forests/PlantsPark/Recreation Area

Overview

No votes yet

Kennedy Woods is a MDC site within Forest Park that offers many opportunities for parkgoers. There are plenty of trails and bridges to and boardwalks to spend time on in the middle of the woods. On the northwest side of the woods is an in-progress savanna that holds many native plants. Wildflowers are abundant in the site, with huge oak trees that have flourished in the open spaces. Late summer is a great time to visit this site, when most of the wildflowers are in bloom and at full height of growth. The savanna is a great example of volunteer work leading to a native grassland site in what was once just a fescue grass area.
