North Campus Solar Powered Walkway
Overview
The path that connects the Lucas Hall area with the Touhill and Parking Lot K is illuminated by solar lights. The use of solar lighting offers a sense of security to pedestrians without drawing any additional power from the grid. The panels at the top of the light posts collect sunlight and convert it into electricity which is stored in batteries. In the evening when sunlight is fading a sensor switches the light on and uses the energy stored in the battery to cast light on the path. Hopefully this green practice will spread to other areas of the UMSL's campus soon.
