The Whitney R. Harris World Ecology Center was established in 1990 as a partnership between the Missouri Botanical Garden, the Saint Louis Zoo and the University of Missouri - Saint Louis. Originally known as the International Center for Tropical Ecology, it has become a premier institution for graduate studies in ecology and biodiversity conservation. The Center encourages the conservation of tropical and temperate ecosystems through research and the preparation of the next generation of ecologists.
