Green Roof

Green roof systems used to be seen as something of an eccentricity. However, more and more individuals and organisations are switching on to the benefits of these solutions. When combined with the right rainwater systems, these roofing designs can be hugely effective. They have a subtle, attractive look and they are associated with a range of practical benefits. The roofing systems have a positive impact on sustainability, biodiversity and the attenuation of storm water. In addition, they can improve the quality of life for building users, whether they are utilised in domestic or commercial settings. Highlighting the fact that these solutions are becoming more popular and mainstream, a school in Wales has added a green roof system to its buildings. Cwmbach Primary School underwent a £6.7 million revamp to provide an additional 150 infant places for locals. Recently, head teacher Eileen King showed politicians around the extension, which includes the special roofing design. The extension incorporates a state-of-the-art infants’ building and new facilities for staff, as well as a kitchen, main hall and reception area. As well as the green roof, the extension has photovoltaic solar panelling to help boost its energy efficiency.
