Fossil Grove

Overview
The Fossil Grove museum is Glasgow's most ancient visitor attraction. Insiide, the remnants of an extensive ancient forest, is viewed from within a building constructed to protect the fossils from the elements. The fossilised stumps were exposed when stone was being quarried for Dumbarton Road in the nineteenth century. The small wood where the grove is sited was formerly called Tinker's Wood and was a place where itinerant traders would park for the night on the approaches to Glasgow.
