The Abandoned Channels are water features that used to be a part of a channel that had water flowing through it. The abandoned channel marked here has since been cut off from the Salt River, a tributary of the Mississippi River. This abandoned channel is now called "Horseshoe Lake" and sits in the Ted Shanks Conservation Area that is a few miles north of Louisiana, Missouri and is adjacent to the Mississippi River.
