The Sny Island Levee is a federal levee. It is currently locally maintained by local governments. It was erected in 1954 under the flood control act. It went through substantial renovations in 1968 and had a layer of packed sand added on top of the original layer of clay. Its purpose is to retain water, and protect the farm land behind it.
