Along the tip of Blackbird Island, one can find a wing damn surrounding its end. The Wing dam makes a half circle shape around the tip of Blackbird Island. This is a manmade rock pile that extends out from the shoreline with its sole purpose to deflect the current to the main navigation channel. Along the wing damn you will see an abundance of ripples along the river. Wing dams also serve as good places to fish at. The scour hole is located on the upstream side of a wing dam. This will be there area where water hits the rocks and where you can find fish waiting for food. It serves as a good example because of its large size and shape.
