Less than 10 percent of Americans can view the Milky Way. I feel privileged to be able to sit on my porch or at the sound’s edge to admire the changing heavens. I love being able to watch the full moon rise over the ocean’s edge. We have watched the space shuttle as it shoots into orbit. These are special privileges and deserve protection from light pollution. The darkened night sky also helps our animal population with natural nocturnal hunting cycles.
