Founded in 1898, the Quincy Smelter operated until 1971, and today remains the last smelter preserved in the Keweenaw copper range. It is also one of only a few historic copper smelters preserved in the world, and as such is currently the focus of ongoing stabilization, rehabilitation, and reuse.
