京都市立動物園--Kyoto City Zoo
Overview
市民の寄付金と市費によって明治36（1903）年4月に開園した全国で2番目の歴史ある動物園であり，市民の手によって創設された我が国で初めての動物園です。平成20（2008）年4月には，京都大学との間で「野生動物の保全に関する教育・研究を行う連携協定」を締結し，この協定に基づいて，動物園に常駐する大学教員が動物園の職員と協働して，動物が持つ様々な魅力を引き出す施設の整備や動物の知性の研究等を進めています。チンパンジーの生態や勉強会に熱心なのも、京大の霊長類研究所のお陰でしょうか。
