Ocupa uma área de 36.000 m², com exposição interna de dioramas, animais taxidermizados e vegetais desidratados.
Na área externa está o “Caminho das Araucárias”, um bosque remanescente de Floresta Araucária, onde uma passarela elevada percorre uma trilha com 400 metros de comprimento, com 12 vitrines e painéis que mostram as inter-relações dos elementos naturais encontrados na Floresta Araucária e também os vários produtos desta formação vegetal, obtidos e utilizados pelo homem.
É provável que a árvore mais antiga de Curitiba, que seria uma imbuia, estaria localizada aí. Estima-se que tenha mais de mil anos.
