Rawlyk Preserve

Size: 51 acres
Preserve & Trail Information: The Wetlands Loop Trail takes visitors through woodlands, grasslands and wetlands. The preserve serves as a demonstration to other landowners of how they can restore native grassland and wetlands. The majority of the property is native warm season grassland planted in 2005. Prior to 2005, this area was in continuous row crop and sod production for well over 100 years. The remainder of the property is mature woodland and wooded wetland with vernal ponds along a headwater tributary of the Lockatong Creek, a New Jersey Category 1 Stream.

History: The property has been in the Rawlyk family since the mid-1920s. In 2006, the family chose to preserve its farm in partnership with D&R Greenway Land Trust.

Location: Hampton Rd, between Oak Summit Rd and Oak Grove Rd, Kingwood, NJ 08803

Directions: From Hopewell, take Route 518 to Route 31. Take Route 31 towards Ringoes. After entering Ringoes, bear left before Mom’s Restaurant to get on Route 579. Go several miles, then at the top of a small hill the road comes to a small “T” – go left then quickly right to stay on Route 579. Go about 2 more miles on Route 579 until you come to Route 12. Take a left on Route 12 for less than 2 miles, then go right on Pittstown Road at the Leon’s Sod Farm sign. Go 2.5 miles, passing Slacktown Road and Lower Oak Grove Road on the left and then make a left on Oak Grove Road. Go one mile, then make the first right onto Hampton Road. Go about 2/3 mile to the trailhead on your right, where parking is available in a gravel lot by a split rail fence.
