Crown Point Ecology Center

Overview

The Center’s 10-acre Certified Organic farm, woodlands, meadows and wetland-pond ecosystem provide unique, sacred spaces to walk, to meditate and to be inspired by creation. Everyone committed to restoring Earth and creating a sustainable society is welcome at Crown Point.

The mission of Crown Point is to demonstrate the practical applications of ecology and to connect spirituality, social justice and environmental protection.

Crown Point promotes four principles: Sustainability, Community, Spirituality and Justice.

Key program areas include education and sustainable agriculture.

Community:
The Crown Point Community participates in furthering the common good with our brothers and sisters and all natural systems. We seek mutually beneficial relationships that foster dignity and responsible action on behalf of all life. A few Crown Point programs that promote the principle of community include:

* Youth Service Learning Projects

Sustainability:
In the practice of Sustainability Crown Point models how to live lightly on the Earth, neither depleting its resources, nor causing environmental impacts that will imperil future generations and their needs. Crown Point's 10-acre organic farm clearly demonstrates the practical application of the principle.

Spirituality:
The Spirituality of Crown Point is grounded in the Catholic Dominican tradition with its dedication to truth and preaching. Crown Point's interfaith emphasis makes its programs open to all who share the commitment of restoring and preserving our planet. Crown Point programs that promote the principle of spirituality include:

* The Outdoor Labyrinth
* The Foodbank Farm
* Adult programs such as Dances of Universal Peace
* Facility rentals for individual and group retreats

Justice:
Crown Point supports Justice for the human-Earth community by reaching out to the poor and voiceless and advocating for environmental restoration. Through education, preservation and research the Dominican tradition of preaching the just Word is fostered. A few Crown Point programs that promote the principle of justice include:

* Free weeks at Summer Farm & Science School for under-served children
* Presentations to the public by our Outreach Coordinator
