Harlem: Riverbank State Park

Overview
Riverbank State Park
Riverbank State Park is the only park of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. It is located 69 feet above the Hudson River, built on the top of a major sewage treatment facility. This park connects with the Hudson River Greenway, an oasis of walking and cycling paths that surrounds Manhattan. Views from this urban rooftop state-of-the-art park offers promenade views of the river, the Palisades and the George Washington Bridge. With long-term justice issues stemming from the North River wastewater plant (which treats about 125 million gallons during dry weather, and up to 340 million gallons a day when the weather is wet), the park is an example of innovative land use.
