Teach's Hole is located just offshore on the sound side of Ocracoke. Teach's Hole is best known as the favorite anchorage of the pirate Blackbeard, also known as Edward Teach. This is where Blackbeard lost his final battle on November 22, 1718. Teach's Hole can be accessed by land in two ways. The first way is to walk down to Springer's Point (no parking) and look left as you reach the sound. The second way to access Teach's Hole is to turn down South Point Rd. and take the first right (a 4-wheel drive vehicle is a necessity). There is limited parking at the end of this road. From the parking area, it is a short walk down to the shore. The path can be quite wet and muddy at times.
