History of this destination:
Pousada Coxixo is considered a pioneer in the development of tourism in Paraty as it was the first pousada and was built during the period of time before 1974 when the road to Cunha was the only way to arrive in Paraty. Maria Della Costa, famous Brazilian model, star of stage and screen, and her husband, also an actor, planned this pousada and built it gradually over the years.
Today, Maria plays a very important role in the character of this inviting pousada. In her many travel around the world, she found that friendliness and warmth are often missing. Her goal is to have her guests feel welcome and at home in her pousada and she takes steps to assure this. She also takes great pride in being the gardener for the lush vegetation in the courtyard of this historic pousada, which is a haven for many exotic species of birds. Maria is an energetic, dynamic, glamorous women who delights in welcoming guests to Coxixo. She believes in “boca a boca’ or “word of mouth” to market her pousada.

Sustainable features:

Through this pousada, Maria and her husband help preserve the history of Paraty. In addition, you will find it very interesting to see the displays and memorabilia, which show Maria through her career as an internationally known model and star of stage and film. This delightful pousada also features many historic pieces of art that are typical of this region of Brazil. She uses local food resources as much as possible. She lives locally in the pousada and has been a resident of Paraty since the mid 1960’s.
