Water Works

LandmarkCultural Site

Overview

No votes yet

Originally built in the 18th century as a response to the yellow fever epidemic and the need for non-contaminated drinking water, the site became used for a variety of activities throughout the next two centuries. These uses include the creation of steam power for industry all the way to an aquarium and a swimming hole. In addition to the beautifully restored original buildings and waterwheel, there is an interpretive center to learn about the history, and an upscale restaurant nearby.
