三坑子是早期大漢溪上游的一個貨物轉運港，附近內陸村落與三坑子之間有頻繁的陸路交通往來。如今這些舊路 多已被公路取代，僅剩片斷殘跡而已。若是專程而來走這些零碎的古道，似乎不太值得，但這些古道就在三坑老 街、大平紅橋等景點的附近，若結合古道、老街、古蹟、水圳等景點路線，則可成為一趟豐富的知性之旅。
