The Maryland Food Collective, known to University of Maryland Students as the Co-op, is a food shop that sells fresh and premade salads and sandwiches, coffee, and assorted deserts, as well as a daily hot lunch, located in the Adele H. Stamp Student Union. The Co-op provides University of Maryland students and guests with affordable and ethically sourced food that is environmentally friendly and cost efficient, which is especially beneficial for students who want to eat healthy and be sustainable, but also keep their expenditures low. Being worker-owned, the Co-op also offers students with job opportunities that enable them to experience the responsibilities of operating a business so that they can be ready for future career opportunities. This type of management system contributes to an atmosphere of equality and teamwork.
