Palacio de la Moneda is the seat of government in Chile since 1845. It was built in 1805 as a colonial mint ("moneda" means coin) before the independence of Chile from Spain. This neoclassical building represents an important icon in the Chilean history. Visits are only through guided tours and reservations must be made one week ahead. Additionally, no reservation is required to assist to the changing-of-the-guard ceremony every other day at 10:00 a.m.
