Historic Spanish Point
Overview
Visit Historic Spanish Point located on 30-acres centrally located in Sarasota County, Florida. Learn about the region’s pre-history in “A Window to the Past,” the only archaeological exhibition in the nation built inside of a shell mound. Visitors can also connect to Florida’s inspiring pioneers by seeing Sarasota’s first produce packing house, a charming chapel and pioneer cemetery, and the beautifully preserved Guptill House, built in 1901. If plants are your passion, this museum has plenty to see and explore, like Mrs. Palmer’s Jungle Walk and Sunken Garden. The butterfly garden is one of the largest on the gulf coast. All of the amazing sites can be found in the quiet oasis of history located on the shores of Little Sarasota Bay in the town of Osprey.
Historic Spanish Point has partnered with SUP Sarasota to offer eco-tours on stand-up paddleboards or in kayaks from the museum’s property on Little Sarasota Bay.
SUP’s experienced guides will lead you on a 2-plus-hour tour through the most pristine and extensive mangrove islands and tunnels on the Gulf Coast. Paddle the waters Indians inhabited more than 5,000 years ago and where Sarasota’s First Settlers made their home. This is one of the most beautiful spots in the region. Paddlers will enjoy cruising the shallow, calm waters, exploring the mangrove islands and tunnels or relaxing on one of the many small private beaches while taking in the extensive marine and bird life.
