Overview

Jackson Hewitt is the second-largest federal income tax preparation service in the country, with more than 6,500 tax service offices. The company's Sarasota office has used the Green Business Partnership Program as its framework for enhancing its environmental performance. The firm has instituted a comprehensive recycling program and sought ways to reduce its energy consumption. "Green" issues are a daily topic at staff meetings and in company newsletters.

This large-sized service business is part of the Green Business Partnership. The Green Business Partnership (GBP) encourages environmental stewardship in the commercial sector, and recognizes businesses that make an extra effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This collaborative effort includes businesses, business organizations and local governments. The GBP was initiated through a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to Sarasota County. The program now has roughly 100 local members.
