Nexen Lands: Concern
Overview
Currently used as a water-front community space for hiking, biking and local festivals, the Nexen land is the former site of the Nexen chemical plant and is the proposed site for a future residential and commercial development. Due to contaminated soil conditions, residents have voiced concern over dredging and prolonged chemical exposure of residential and commercial use. Due to its central location, however, many feel the lands can still be responsibly used. Suggestions for use include: a public gathering and recreation space, community centre, park space, protected trails, and a youth centre with a roof-top community garden.
