The meeting place of fresh and salt-water habitats, the Squamish Estuary offers vital protection to an abundance of species in the Sea-to-Sky corridor. Important for migratory fish transitioning between feeding and spawning stages, as a landscape corridor – linking ocean, riparian and forest habitats, and as a natural water reservoir for flood control, the estuary has beautiful walking trails throughout the protected area. Fall months boast an abundance of salmon – the keystone species of the area – returning up the river to spawn. Contact the Squamish Environmental Conservation Society for more information and local activities. www.naturesquamish.ca
