Academy Allotments

Vision 21 project-
Academy Allotments in Leckwith manages and maintains a former disused allotment and brown field site to develop a dedicated horticultural training environment for volunteers and people with learning needs. Using organic principles, those involved in the project learn a range of horticultural, vegetable production and garden maintenance skills. Volunteers are involved in the reinstating and the maintenance of an onsite reed bed and water course, working with the Allotment Association to develop a biodiversity area which brings benefit to the whole allotment site. The project engages local communities through building educational facilities at the heart of a city centre built environment. Sustainability is achieved through training placements, garden maintenance and selling produce off-site.
