Cylburn Arboretum is a 207 acre nature preserve that offers a remarkable combination of gardens, trails, educational opportunities, green features, and events.

Highlights

• Especially notable is the variety of gardens: The All America Selections garden, the Vegetable garden, and the Heritage Rose Garden are located behind the Mansion, a partially preserved, luxurious post-Civil War dwelling. Several Memorial gardens, the Butterfly garden, and the Formal garden, complement the areas around the Mansion. The Garden of the Senses is waist height, allowing physically challenged visitors to touch and smell the plants easily. The Children's Garden includes a schoolhouse and bell.
• The Vollmer Visitors’ Orientation and Education Center has a green roof, composting toilets, geothermal heating and cooling.
• The Great Horned Owl is resident year round, and Veery and Scarlet Tanager are resident during spring and summer. Find more detailed information at

• Arrange to visit the Nature Museum which contains a collection of Maryland birds, most of which are mounted in habitat arrangements, and collections of bird eggs from the late 1800's. Visitors are invited and encouraged to touch many of the items.
