このサイトについて
The Liz Christy Garden, located at Bowery and Houston Street was the first community garden started in 1973 by local resident Liz Christy and Green Guerillas. Originally, the garden was a demolished building turned into an empty lot. The garden is funded by donations from nurseries, professional horticulturists and local gardeners. In 1986, the garden was dedicated in memory of its founder, Liz Christy.
Today, the garden has a pond with fish and turtles, groves of trees, vegetable beds, herbs, and flowering perennials. The garden is open for public on Tuesday from 6 pm- Dusk (May- Sept) and Saturday from noon- 4 pm (all year round) and Sunday from noon- 4 pm (May- Sept). The garden is enjoyed by many, utilizing the space for leisure, a "green getaway" and a place to study. The way to become a member is to volunteer and will be eligible to have a space after 40 hours of volunteer work. Children and parents are most welcome to visit and enhance their learning how to garden and surrounding plants.
