The Tyson Research Center is a large field in located in Eureka, Missouri that is directed by Washington University in St. Louis. The primary purpose of the center is to serve as a location for Washington University students and facility (as well as a few other universities) to conduct ecological and biological research. The center functions as a giant outdoor laboratory where students can study the ecological interactions between various different species of plants and animals. The center boasts a "living building" called the "Living Learning Center" that was just recently completed in 2009. It is a LEED certified platinum and is one of the most sustainable buildings in the entire state, leaving a zero carbon footprint. It is a truly amazing building that meets even the most stringent of green building requirements, and creates all its own electricity and harvests all of its own water. The site also features an amble laboratory building and 52 storage bunkers. A telescope and an observation deck are also present on the site.

The center is one of the leading ecological research sites in the countries, and majority of its research focuses on ecosystem degradation, restoration, and sustainability. It site itself is around 1,966.5 acres, and is primarily composed of Oak-Hickory forest and bottom-land sycamore/maple forest. The center also functions as a biological field station, and is easily one of greenest sites in the city. Anyone who has even a passing interest in ecology and conservationism would do well to visit it.
