When the Borough of Harrington Park was incorporated, Teddy Roosevelt was President of the United States. The town had four grist mills, four saw mills, three stores and several orchards. The rural nature of the area changed during the 1800’s when the West Shore Railroad (Jersey City-Albany Railroad) change a quite summer vacation spot to an active suburb.
Once incorporated as a Borough, in 1904, the building boom took over and Harrington Park faced fast-paced growth continued through the 1970’s. Today, we also have an age-restricted senior housing complex and two condominium complexes that have helped address our state obligations for affordable housing.

The structure of Harrington Park's government consists of a mayor and a six-member council. Volunteer organizations such as the Harrington Park Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corps offer outstanding first-response services for our residents. An assortment of many other civic-minded organizations provide services and activities available to all residents. The Public Library offers services through Bergen County Cooperative Library Services, and we can boast about our blue ribbon school system

Our DPW plays a most important part in our community by maintaining the roads, sewers, and equipment. Services include curbside garbage, electronic/computer equipment and recycling, as well as, a recycling center. Tree branches and leaves are picked up on a seasonal basis.

Over the years a large amount of property has been dedicated for beautiful and functional parks for the residents to enjoy. The town’s recreational acreage is one of the highest per capita in the state.

The Borough Hall houses the office of the Borough Clerk, Building Inspector, Tax Office, Borough Court and Meeting Room. For more information on Harrington Park see: http://www.harringtonparknj.gov/
