A Hatteras Village Tradition Since 1948
Lee Robinson General Store was built by Mr. Lee Robinson in 1948 after he retired from commercial fishing. Mr. Lee, as the locals called him, was a pound netter and after fishing got too hard, he opened this local landmark.
It is said that Mr. Lee traded a refrigerator for the property and built the store from scrap wood found on the beach and the island . Although the store has changed in the last 30 years, it is still a local fixture and maintains the island tradition. It was rebuilt in traditional Coast Guard style architecture. The present owners are native to Hatteras village; the family has lived and fished here for generations. They take pride in keeping Lee Robinson General Store a Hatteras Village Tradition.
