This house is one of the few independent cooperative houses in Ithaca; most others are owned by Cornell. The property used to be the stable for the nearby Carriage House. Usually, all the residents are graduate students across many Cornell programs. As a propre cooperative house (co-op), the mice, as they call themselves, run their own vegetable garden, compost their waste on-site. Recently, the residents have encouraged their landlord (the house is rented) to perform an energy audit of the house, and to improve the house’s insulation. Additionally, co-ops are sustainable by nature, since more pepole are using the same space.
